Flying University tiene este nombre como homenaje a las personas de todas las épocas, reconocidas o anónimas, que hicieron estudios de forma autodidacta, libre o incluso clandestina. La primera institución que llevó este nombre formó, entre otrxs estudiantes, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie (Marie Curie).
El nombre también está asociado al proyecto El Pez Volador / The Flying Fish, dedicado desde 2006 a la promoción del desarrollo por medio de la educación, en particular de personas autistas.
Flying University's name honors the people of all times, recognized or anonymous, who studied self-taught, freely or even clandestinely. The first institution that bore this name educated, among other students, Marie Skłodowska-Curie (Marie Curie).
